Rear end collision takes an unexpected turn into drug trafficking investigation

26-4486

Two have been arrested for drug trafficking after rear‑ending a police vehicle.

On March 5, 2026, a patrol officer driving a marked police vehicle was stopped for a red light at the intersection of Keith Road and Mountain Highway. While at the red light, a red Mini Cooper rear‑ended the officer’s vehicle. As additional officers arrived on scene to check on the driver of the Mini Cooper and the patrol officer who had been struck, they observed drug paraphernalia in plain view inside the vehicle.

The driver and passenger of the Mini Cooper, both from the North Shore, were arrested for drug possession. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of fentanyl, crystal meth, cocaine, cash and evidence consistent with drug trafficking.

“This incident shows how routine calls can quickly turn into something far more serious,” said Corporal Mansoor Sahak, Media Relations Officer for the North Vancouver RCMP. “Rear‑ending a marked police car isn’t a recommended life choice, but in this case it did make it remarkably easy for officers to intercept harmful drugs before they reached the community.”

The two suspects were released on scene pending the outcome of the investigation.

The patrol officer and the two occupants of the Mini Cooper did not sustain injuries as a result of the collision.
