• What was removed: "Defender of the Faith" (a title used by British monarchs since Henry VIII) and the reference to the "United Kingdom".

• The New Title: The official Canadian title is now: "Charles the Third, by the Grace of God King of Canada and His other Realms and Territories, Head of the Commonwealth".

• When: The bill received Royal Assent on June 22, 2023.

• Reasoning: The Trudeau government sought to modernize the title to align with Canada's role as an independent nation, removing a direct link to the Church of England, which is not an established church in Canada.

The proclamation subsequently established the title without "Defender of the Faith." 

Note: While the title was changed by law in 2023, the actual Royal Proclamation was signed on January 8, 2024, to officially introduce it. 

HE RECOGNIZES THE DEVINE RIGHT OF KINGS TO RULE, but is no longer “Defender of the Faith” that would provide the bonafides to the claim.
