Artificial intelligence tools are becoming increasingly common, but understanding how to use them effectively for legal research can be challenging. Developed by AALL’s Legal Information Services to the Public Special Interest Section (LISP-SIS) in 2026, Best Practices for Using AI in Legal Research A Guide for Non-Lawyers helps non-lawyers navigate AI tools with confidence. Learn how AI generates and retrieves information, recognize its strengths and limitations, and discover best practices for using AI responsibly when researching legal issues.
In addition to the guide, LISP-SIS developed a printable bookmark featuring key points and best practices from the resource. Libraries can distribute the bookmark to patrons as a convenient reference for evaluating AI-generated legal information and conducting legal research more effectively.
